Perishable Fold

Eduardo Consuegra

Initially larger in size than the grey chipboard background, the waxed paper is folded twice in order to fit inside the frame. Tucked in the folds of this impermeable membrane are overlapping pairs of print media from North and South America that trace the propagandas of accelerated urbanization and class aspirations within a global economy. Consuegra proposes an elliptical space between the two sides of the American continent in folds of time, where memories of overdevelopment are evidenced via adverts. What is preserved for our generation is their speculative potentials for transformative meaning and signification that is manifold. Eduardo Consuegra lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent group exhibitions include; Black Rabbit, White Hole at Samuel Freeman Gallery, Los Angeles; Banquet of the Jackal at Luckman Gallery, Los Angeles; On Forgery: Is One Thing Better Than Another? at LAXART, Los Angeles; and Second Nature: The Valentine/Adelman Collection at the Hammer, at Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. Consuegra is represented by Richard Telles Fine Art in Los Angeles.

Commonwealth & Council presents the unabridged suite of six recent magazine collages that introduce brown-waxed butcher paper to Eduardo Consuegra’s repertoire, two of which were previously included in his one-person exhibition, “Re-Present,” at Richard Telles Fine Art in September, 2012.
